2 ASSGN AND (5) REPLIES DUE IN 24 HOURS

REPLIES

Unit 7 DB: Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethics

In response to your classmates, debate the pros and cons of corporate social responsibility and give an example of what happens when ethics fails at an organization.  Your example can be a personal one or you can research an example. If you use an example found through research you must include the citation.

LAKISHA’S POST:

Social responsibility in a business setting is engaging in positive support within the community, getting involved in ways that will help impact the environment and using their platform for good to promote programs that can coincide with an every day changing society.

On a personal aspect social responsibility for me is helping within my community by volunteering at nursing facilities, hospice and at soup kitchens and also when I’m able to donate to one of the charities that is dear to my heart (awareness for domestic violence, breast cancer, and foster care). To me personal social responsibility is basically just being kind and decent to another being, having common courtesy toward others and having respect for oneself and thy neighbor.

Yes business organizations should be socially responsible. By doing so organizations can gain loyal employees, attract loyal customers, open doors to new opportunities in the future. When others see the good and positive things that an organization is doing for the community and the environment positive outcomes and benefits will follow.

In order for a organization to

grow and be successful it needs 2 very important ingredients which is ethics and corporate social responsibility.

I think that managers should

give mandatory training classes in ethics management to all employees within the organization. The training will cover the following:

• corporation values

• codes and policies to guide decisions and behavior

• standards of the organization

With this training employees will have a clearer and better understanding of what business ethics are expected of them while being employed at the company and will give them the encouragement and motivation needed to be loyal employees and deliver with confidence.

AUSTIN’S POST

After reading and studying this week’s materials, respond to the following questions.

1. First explain what social responsibility means in a business setting.

2. Then, describe what social responsibility means to you personally.  Please make a connection to this week’s materials citing examples from the readings, or researching beyond the readings. Include a citation to your source(s).

3. Do you think business organizations should be socially responsible.  Why or why not?

4. Finally, make a connection between corporate social responsibility and ethics.  What do you think is the best way for managers to ensure and/or encourage their employees to act ethically?

In responses to your classmates, debate the pros and cons of corporate social responsibility and give an example of what happens when ethics fails at an organization.  Your example can be a personal one or you can research an example. If you use an example found through research you must include the citation.

In this week’s reading material, we learned about social responsibility. Social responsibility defined by the reading material was broken into three main components. Seriously considering the impact of company actions on others, the obligation of managers to protect and improve the welfare of society, and, meeting the economic and legal responsibilities and extending beyond those obligations. After reading the material and how it gives an outlook on how goods impact the people, and businesses should be interested because it makes them profit in turn, I have my outlook. I did do a little bit of research to understand a bit better, but all the articles I came across focused on image. Image is important to a business’s success because it builds a sense of consumer support, trust, and respect. It ensures consumers you care about your company. Going a bit further into image, it comes down to the way internal images are being represented as well, such as customer support or customer service. Business owners should be making sure their employees all hold the same values and represent the business in a correct manner. This in my opinion is one of the fundamental building blocks for a great business, as poor image especially in this generation, is easily criticized. For example, Chick-fil-a holds a sense of great image externally to consumers, and internally as employees, they create a satisfactory product and service which ties directly into social responsibility. I think that all businesses should be socially responsible, and they should take actions to improve if they feel they are not. In my opinion I feel that if business owners do not feel their internal community is up to par, that meetings are beneficial. But meetings do only help to a certain extent, so I think a good way to make sure all employees are on the same page is to hire like-minded employees who hold the same core values, and also businesses should focus on employee retention plans to ensure they keep good employees and attract new employees. I stay strong on the fact that an image in society these days is very detrimental, and maintaining image in business is tough since you have a group of diverse personalities employed together. I think all business owners could benefit immensely by following social responsibility.

 Thank you

ALSO MUST REPLY TO INSTRUCTOR’S RESPONSE TO ME:

INSTRUCTOR:

Thank you for your post.

Please elaborate on, “All individuals whose actions have an impact on society.”  Provide an example.

Best regards

MY POST:

1.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) describes social responsibility in a business context. Social responsibility shows how all people and entities have an obligation to always act in the best interests of the society and community. CSR is business is used to show that businesses have the responsibility of doing good with actions towards social accountability to customers, stakeholders, and the world. This is used to show the mandate organizations and companies have to embrace policies that promote the well-being of society and the environment (Novelli, 2021). This can be done by making environmental reforms and participating in charity works.

2.

According to me, social responsibility is the duty which an individual has to perform civic duties which end up benefiting the whole society. The actions of an individual should be guided by the foundation of ethics. The theory of social responsibility gives a mandate to individuals and groups to do things right and just and consider the application of morally correct standards in making daily decisions in situations that can affect other people or the environment (Novelli, 2021). This does not apply to business alone but also to all individuals whose actions can have an impact on society.

3.

I think business organizations should be socially responsible. They should be socially responsible to contribute to the well-being of the society which is good for the business. It ends up building the brand of the business in the market and creates a platform to be viewed by customers and stakeholders as an appealing organization. A business that adopts social responsibility end up attracting more customers as well as retaining existing customers. It increases customer loyalty which in the long run enables the success of the business.

4.

Finally, make a connection between corporate social responsibility and ethics. What do you think is the best way for managers to ensure and/or encourage their employees to act ethically?

Ethics are defined as the code of conduct that governs the actions of an individual or group regarding doing what is right versus what is wrong. Ethics set standards for determining what is right and what is wrong. In business, ethics are used s guiding principles for promoting the common good. Ethics and corporate social responsibility are related because CSR is founded on ethical grounds. CSR shows the need for companies to make sure their actions do not pollute the environment which can impact the livelihood of humanity. It guides the business to avoid maximizing profits at the expense of human beings and environmental well-being.

There are several ways that can be used to promote ethical behaviors in organizations and among employees (Graziano, 2017). Provision of training and seminars on ethics education can be used. It is also good to give incentives and acknowledge employees who portray ethical behavior.

Unit 7 DB: Your Revision Process

Responses:

In response to your classmates, review their opinions about revision and the revised piece of writing they shared. What about their opinion do you agree with? What is different about your approach to revision and their approach? Finally, pose a question about revision to your classmates based on their initial posts.

SHEREE’S POST

Hello Everyone ,

In my opinion on revision is that it is the action of revising and its good to use because if you do not look over your work  it can cause alot of problem , you always look over your work you might have misspelled something or even put your punctuation in the wrong place . it also improve your vision.

The danger of not revising your work? Well the danger is that it can cause miscommunication and it can also cause confusing and it can decrease your chance of acceptance by a traditional publisher.

JANET’POST

Revision is a very important part of writing. I have noticed in my work that not revising has caused small mistakes. Small mistakes take off points, and every point adds up.

One assignment I done revision on,was reliable sources. I’m not sure if it was for my writing, honestly. Or because reliable sources are so important.

I have however learned that revision is very important.

Due Date: 11:59 p.m. EST, Sunday, of Unit 7
Points: 100

Overview:

Over the course of the last few units, you have been working on crafting the argument
for your Argument Essay. You will now write an argument essay that answers one of
these questions.

The essay should answer ONE of these questions:

1. Should free speech be regulated on social media?

2. Should health insurance be mandatory for all American citizens?

3. Should Americans be required to complete some form of national service?

Each of the above questions relate to one of the issues you have already written about
in the Unit 4 Assignment: Pro and Con of an Issue and through your Unit 5
Assignment: Argument Essay Introduction. Now, continue to build on that Argument
Essay introduction to develop your full argument essay. Remember that the Argument
Essay needs to focus on one side of this issue.

You should answer ONE of the above questions in a well-thought out and developed
argument essay with:

• A clear introduction that sets up the issue, explains your topics, and ends with your

thesis statement.

• Body paragraphs focusing on one topic in support of your argument in each paragraph.

o You need three reliable and academic sources for this assignment in support of

your argument. You should include evidence that is directly quoted, paraphrased,

or summarized to support each topic. The evidence should have appropriate in-

text citations.

o You will typically want to include one piece of evidence in the body of each

paragraph, as you did in the paragraph and pro/con assignment. You are not

required to include a source about the counterargument (other side of your

argument), but you may if you would like.

• Then, end with a conclusion that wraps up your essay’s argument and leaves the reader

with something to consider about your issue.

Argument Essay

• Include a references page for the three sources you used in your essay.

You can use the ideas from your Pro/Con paragraphs in your Argument Essay, but
they should be revised and reworded so that you are not just resubmitting your
Unit 4 assignment. You will also want to revise your Argument Essay introduction
based on the feedback you received from the Unit 5 Assignment.

Argument Essay and Third Person, Objective Writing

We have probably all had to argue for a position we held. What makes someone
receptive to your argument? Normally, the audience is more willing to listen to your
position if you argue for it objectively and avoid unreasonable, argumentative tactics.
Your argument needs to be logical and fair, giving people the ability to disagree with
you.

Your argument also should be written in the third person to show that you can be
objective, meaning you use “He,” “she,” “they,” “people,” “one” and do not use “I,” “me,”
“we,” “us,” “our,” “you,” and “your.”

Instructions:

• Create an argument essay that answers ONE of the above questions.

• You should have a well-articulated argument essay with an introduction, body

paragraphs (with evidence), conclusion, and a references page.

Requirements:

• Please submit a Microsoft Word document or PDF.

• The essay should be three to four pages in length with an additional APA-style

title and reference pages. The document should follow proper APA style

formatting (Times New Roman, 12 font suggested) with 1-inch margins and

double spaced.

• Include three (3) sources in your essay that are reliable and academic.

o Make sure you have at least three (3) in-text citations where you have

directly quoted, paraphrased, or summarized material from the sources.

You will need corresponding references for each of these sources that

match the in-text citations.

• You need an introduction and conclusion for this essay. Remember the

introduction sets up the essay and ends with the thesis statement. The

conclusion sums up the essay and restates the thesis in a different way. The

introduction and conclusion should not be exact replicas of each other.

• Your body paragraphs should each focus on one topic that supports your

argument.

• Your writing should be free of punctuation, spelling, and grammar errors and

contain appropriate word choice for an academic setting with clear sentence

structure.

Be sure to read the criteria by which your work will be evaluated before you write
and again after you write.
